Camping

Stuff You May Need

If you forget anything that you needed, or just wanted, there is a WalMart Supercenter only a few minutes away in Macomb, IL (get directions here). You can find just about everything you could need or want for a week of camping there. Speaking of what you may need or want for camping here is a list of stuff to bring:

Tent - We bring all the tents we can find and use the extra ones to keep our coolers and suitcases in. A good idea is to set it up before you go camping to make sure you have all the parts and pieces to put it together.

Air Mattress - Again, we bring all we have and the extra ones are used by the other people in the campsite.

Grill or Camp Stove - The more people you have the more grills and camp stoves you want. We had 2 grills and 2 camp stoves that we used to feed 15-20 people every day. Cornerstone doesn't allow ground fires so if you want a fire it has to be contained in a grill, fire pit, or other approved container.

Coolers - Another item that we bring as many as we have to keep drinks and food in. If you are going to keep food in your coolers, make sure that you always have enough ice in the coolers to keep your food nice and cold. You can buy ice at the festival grocery store, and I would suggest every morning filling your coolers. You may want to check your coolers in the afternoon too, depending on how much sun they get and how well insulated they are will determine how often you need to refill. A great tip is to buy lots of salt to throw in on the ice and water in your cooler because it will keep your food colder. This is a proven fact. So don't drain all the water out of your coolers when you fill them up. Only drain enough to put in the new ice. This will help prevent food poisoning.

Sleeping Bags, Blankets, Sheets - Sheets are great for warm nights. Blankets are great to sit on at concerts and for cool nights.

Lanterns, Flashlights - The more the better.

Insect Repellents - Anything you can think of or afford to help keep off the insects is a big plus.

Cooking and Eating Utensils - We bring everything you would find in a normal kitchen, just about. Go to Wal-Mart and pick up a storage bin with drawers to keep everything organized and clean.

Camp Furniture - This includes chairs, stools, screen houses, canopies, tables, and whatever else you might like to bring. Some of you may be wondering why anyone would bring all of this stuff, but when we go camping we go in style and comfort. We like to have fun while we are there and being comfortable helps.

Tarps - Don't forget the tarps. Make sure you have one for underneath your tent in case it rains it will keep the water out of the floor of your tent. When you put it down it should be a little bigger than the base of your tent, set up your tent right on top of the tarp and once it's up fold the edges up to right under the edge of the tent. You don't want it to stick out from under the tent as this will cause the tarp to catch water and flood your tent. You can use a tarp as a rain-fly as well if you've lost the one that came with the tent or didn't have one. Just throw it over the tent to keep out the rain. Another use is as an awning to have some shade during the day.
