Cooking If you are going to be cooking your own food during this week of camping, here is some information to help. There are several different ways to cook when you are out camping. There are grills, camp stoves, deep fryers, even camp ovens. All of these options are great depending what you are cooking and how you want to cook. Grills come in two main options: Charcoal or Propane. Charcoal grills take a while to heat up and get to the point where you can cook on them but a lot of people like them because of the flavor that you get. Propane grills on the other hand heat up instantly and you have more control over the heat. This means cooking time is cut down because you can start sooner. Camp stoves are generally propane fueled and come with two burners that have individual controls, although you can find many models with just as many options. These are great for cooking side dishes or even heating up pre-cooked food that you bring with you. Another option is a deep fryer that you can deep fry meats, french fries, and many other foods. Deep fryers come in propane and electric models (Unless you have an RV or a generator the electirc models won't do much). Camp ovens are great for making or re-heating muffins and other baked goods. The only downside is that you have to use one of the burners on your camp stove so unless you have several camp stoves it will increase your cooking time or decrease what you can cook. You can buy food at the Cornerstone Festival Grocery store or there is a Wal-Mart Supercenter just a few minutes away. If you don't have a car with you or you only have a small group then the festival grocery store is probably your best bet. We have a large group so we tend to go to Wal-Mart to buy large amounts of food. We go so far as making breakfast whenever we roll out of bed. Bacon and eggs, pancakes and sausage, breakfast bagels, cinnamon buns and other things. If you aren't up for that much work you can just take cereal, pop-tarts, and muffins. We like to eat well so the work is all worth it. We make friends with our food too. Lunch is another matter. We don't cook anything for lunch but we always have food and snacks so everyone can fend for themselves. I would suggest that you have everyone in your party pitch in money to help pay for food. If it's a group you're leading, I would suggest that you just focus on the main meals. Take care of breakfast and dinner and let everyone take care of their own lunch. They can also bring their own sodas and snacks. This will help keep costs down and keep you from going insane trying to figure out what everyone likes. On the other hand, our crowd is just a big group of friends and we'll find out what everyone likes and wants and then we go buy it. If we run out or just need more of something we'll go pick it up. This is a vacation and we don't get stressed about stuff. Whatever you do don't forget you are supposed to be having fun this week so relax and enjoy the ride. | Home | Announcements | Contacts | About Us | This web site designed and maintained by Trice Web Design.
